Éruption — Kuchinoerabujima

Kuchinoerabujima volcano in Japan is experiencing increased seismic activity. The Japan Meteorological Agency recorded around 100 shallow volcanic earthquakes between 18 and 27 July, with some occurring near both the Furudake and Shindake craters. A field survey on 23 July found expanded geothermal areas and changes to the crater floor, though emissions remained stable at the time.

If you are on site, be aware that the Alert Level has been raised to 2, indicating elevated volcanic hazard. Ejected blocks may land within 1 km of both craters. The affected radius extends approximately 50 km from the volcano.

Follow all instructions from local authorities and the Japan Meteorological Agency. Avoid restricted zones around the craters and monitor official updates regularly. If you experience unusual volcanic activity or are in a vulnerable location, move to safer ground and contact local emergency services immediately.
