Esan volcano in Hakodate, Japan is experiencing elevated volcanic earthquake activity. The Japan Meteorological Agency recorded 53 volcanic earthquakes on August 5th, followed by 6 more through the morning of August 6th. This marks the first time since March 2012 that daily earthquake counts at Esan exceeded 50 events. However, no volcanic tremor, ground deformation, or changes in fumarolic conditions have been detected, and the Alert Level remains at 1 on Japan's 5-level scale.

While current indicators do not suggest imminent escalation, volcanic situations can change. Avoid restricted zones around the volcano and follow any evacuation orders immediately if issued.
