Éruption — Tokachidake

Tokachidake volcano in Hokkaido is currently active with elevated volcanic activity. The Japan Meteorological Agency reports grayish-white plumes rising approximately 300 metres above the crater rim, along with increased thermal activity, gas emissions, and seismic activity since spring 2026. Further eruptions may occur and could affect areas within 1.5 km of Crater 62-2.

If you are on site within the affected radius of about 50 km, be prepared for ashfall and the risk of large volcanic rocks. Follow all instructions from local authorities and avoid areas marked as dangerous or restricted. Monitor local news and official alerts for updates on volcanic activity.

Take standard precautions: stay indoors during ashfall if possible, wear protective masks and eyewear if ash is present, and keep emergency supplies accessible.
