Éruption — Purace

Puracé volcano in Colombia is experiencing active eruptive activity with continuous tremor and long-period seismic events occurring beneath the crater. Sulfur dioxide emissions remain elevated, measuring between 1,900 and 2,100 tonnes per day, with volcanic plumes dispersing primarily to the northwest and west. Soil carbon dioxide concentrations are rising throughout the affected area.

If you are currently within approximately 50 km of Puracé, you may experience volcanic gases, ash fall, and air quality degradation depending on wind direction and your proximity to the volcano. Monitor local air quality and visibility conditions, and be prepared to limit outdoor activities if ash or gas concentrations increase significantly.

Follow all instructions from local authorities and the Servicio Geológico Colombiano (SGC). Wear appropriate respiratory protection if ash is present, stay informed through official channels, and avoid approaching the volcano.
