Éruption — Rincon de la Vieja

Rincón de la Vieja volcano in Costa Rica is experiencing continuing eruptive activity. Small phreatic eruptions were recorded by seismic and infrasound networks in mid-August, though they were not visually observed. The Alert Level remains at 3 (Caution) and the Aviation Color Code is Orange. The affected area extends approximately 50 km around the volcano.

If you are currently on site within the affected radius, monitor local authorities' instructions closely and be prepared to evacuate if directed. Avoid approaching the volcano and stay informed through official channels about any changes in activity or access restrictions. Ash fall, volcanic gases, and ground instability are possible hazards in the region.
