Éruption — Sinabung

Mount Sinabung in Indonesia is currently erupting with increasing volcanic activity. Since August 6, seismicity has intensified with rising numbers of deep volcanic earthquakes and hybrid earthquakes detected. Emissions have become denser and grayish-white, reaching approximately 1 km above the summit. The exclusion zone has been expanded to 3 km from the summit and 4.5 km on the southeastern flank as of August 13.

If you are currently within the affected area, you are in a high-risk zone. Volcanic ash, gases, and potential lava flows pose direct hazards. You should immediately relocate outside the exclusion zone if you have not already done so. Do not attempt to approach the volcano or enter restricted areas.

Follow all instructions from local authorities and the Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG). Monitor official updates regularly, avoid ash exposure by staying indoors if necessary, and be prepared to evacuate further if conditions worsen. Consult local health authorities regarding any respiratory concerns from volcanic ash.
